Too Hot...Too Lonely!July 24, 2005

Just got back from another great weekend camping trip to Carlyle Lake (Illinois).  The Ellis Oasis was as quite, peaceful, and relaxing as ever.  Because it is a private, family owned, campground, I put in my share of work with mowing and cooking.  Small price to pay for the luxury of hanging out with family all weekend...and not having to pay!

Beyond the 'chores', I was able to accomplish quite a lot with our business plans.  Slick and Spike stayed home with D-Cat and Squirrel to attend a birthday party on Saturday.  We decided that since the heat was expected to be absolutely sweltering this weekend, we would keep them home the whole weekend.  That afforded me the opportunity to work as much as I wanted without worry of what the boys were up to outside the camper.

True to the weatherman's report, IT WAS HOT!!!  While the mercury only hit 97° on Saturday, the heat index reached 114°!  Today was even worse.  When I finally closed up the camper to head home, the mercury was at 100.1° with a heat index of 118° to 125°!  That's TOO hot...glad the boys did stay home this weekend.  With their active lifestyles, it would have been nearly impossible to keep them hydrated enough to stay healthy!

In the GeoCaching world, however, I ordered a mounting bracket for my Garmin V last Wednesday and received it before heading out to the campground for the weekend.  I took the gear bag with me to see if I could find time to make a couple of discoveries while away.  I found the time, wasn't scared by the heat THAT much, but just couldn't bring myself to trekking out all alone.  Not that I couldn't have done it, moreover I couldn't find the fun in doing it without the boys.  All of our conquests have involved 'Team RhinoGang' not just 'Rhino'.  Although I enjoyed the quite time alone, I sure missed having the boys around.  I think GeoCaching, at least for me, is going to be a team or nothing adventure.

Carpe cache,
