We're on a roll...July 21, 2005

...the adventure continues!

Just four days ago we found our first cache.  What an exciting time!  Like before, Slick, Spike and I decided to head out on a spur of the moment adventure.  I am beginning to wonder if that is how most GeoCachers do it?  I certainly wouldn't mind hearing from other cacher's to hear what they had to say about planning or impromptu trips.

Boy oh boy was it hot today!  111°F heat index!  We pretty much resigned ourselves to the comforts of the AC, but had to venture out at about 5:45pm for Spike's swim lesson.  He is in his first year of swim lessons and is doing GREAT!  This was his 4th day and each day has been getting hotter and hotter.  Lucky for him he is in the water while all the parents and grand-parents get to stand on the blazing hot cement without shade or comfort.  It's a small price to pay to watch Spike try and succeed at new, and sometimes scary, tasks.  I couldn't be more proud of him and his willingness to learn how to swim!

Anyhow, just before heading out the door for swim lessons, we decided we would hit the trail afterwards to find another cache.  I knew there was one within a mile of the city pool and also knew that it wouldn't take us long to find it in the daylight.  Well, it was a tad bit more challenging that I thought, but the Peaceful Waters cache was a fairly easy find nonetheless.  We located it within about 15 minutes of setting out from the pool.

Since we had found it so quickly, we thought we might be able to squeeze in just one more before heading for the barn for the night.  It was getting to be about 7pm (the boys usually hit the hay around 7:30pm) but we GPS'd another cache just about 13 miles away.  Part of the trip was interstate, so we went for it without abandon!

After U-Turning in the middle of the highway and getting back on track (the road to the cache was not marked), we felt as though the good ol' boys from Deliverance were going to pluck up the banjos as we drove down a very narrow, backwoods, country rode.  Safe and sound in the RhinoTank, we found a bend in the road to park, took out for some pretty easy hiking, and found a well placed (and well hidden) cache in the Hubbard Woods Hollow treasure.  This cache was the closest to the posted coordinates, not to mention the road, of any we have found so far.  Be sure to check out our Pictures of today's adventures!

We're really glad to be finally out on the trail and GeoCaching!  What a great time the boys and I have had so far!

Carpe cache,

'Rhino'

P.S. I think this sport is going to be a great family time builder too.  As Slick and Spike were running back to the RhinoTank from the Hubbard Woods Hollow cache, leaving me in their dust, it was nice to see how excited they both were having discovered the 'treasures' with me.  In a dead run, Spike leaped into the air and yelled with great pride, "Team RhinoGang!"  Life is good.
