David Davis & The Warrior River Boys ~ Your Host Band

“To be sure, there are strong elements of Bill Monroe in both the singing and mandolin playing of David Davis.  Like all great singers, he expresses emotion, rather than merely referring to it” (Bill Vernon) Their fast moving live show explodes with high energy as David’s bluesy mandolin style, soulful singing and veteran musicianship lead the way for this very talented group.

David Davis and the Warrior River Boys will be performing at the Salem Bluegrass & BBQ Festival! www.BluegrassBBQ.comDavid’s bass player Marty Hays was raised and still resides in Salem, IL.  Marty has been in the band since 1995 and is the current Chairman of the Southern Illinois Bluegrass and Barbecue Festival. The guitar player Jeff Griffy was raised in Illinois and his mother and Step Father live in Mt.Vernon today.

David Davis and his Warrior River Boys from Cullman, Alabama have had good chart success on their last two albums with Rebel Records.  Their self titled release and now their “Troubled Times” album have both have busted into the Bluegrass Unlimited Top thirty Survey, with one song, “Today’s the Day I Get My Gold Watch and Chain” reaching the top ten and staying nine months on the chart. The album was listed in Bluegrass Now Magazine’s top 10 albums of the year.

The classic Hank Williams song “A House of Gold” sang by Davis on “Troubled Times” was recently on Bluegrass Now Magazine’s list of Top Twenty most played Bluegrass Gospel songs, as reported by Bluegrass radio.  David Davis comes by this music honest, as his uncle Cleo Davis was the very first Bluegrass Boy hired By Bill Monroe himself when he started his band and took it to the Grand Ole Opry in 1939.  Of course this revolutionary band started a whole new Genre of American music.

Noteworthy Reviews:

“David Davis and his Alabama-based band play their Bluegrass old-school style, marked by sure-fire picking and train-whistle harmonies.

- Brian Mansfield - USA TODAY

“Davis has an old-school attitude and mandolin style, but his strong tenor has just enough of a pleasing modern touch to prove that he and the the Warrior River Boys know how to craft an original sound squarely within the Bluegrass tradition.”

- COUNTRY MUSIC TODAY

“With this album, DD&WRB seem poised to move into the upper echelon of bluegrass artists.”

- George Hauenstein – COUNTRY STANDARD TIME

“Davis, possessor of one of bluegrass music’s finest voices.”

RED DEER ADVOCATE  – (Alberta, Canada)

“Davis and crew imbue everything they sing and play with an impressively offhanded virtuosity.”
